A late night shooting Thursday prompted the lock down of Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia.

According to media reports, the initial call relating to the shooting of the first victim came into Military Police at approximately 11:00 p.m.

Utilizing the public address system, the military police announced the lock down of the base and ordered everyone to remain in their quarters until notified otherwise.

Marine Corps spokesperson, Lieutenant Agustin Solivan, said the suspect, believed to be male, was barricaded in one of the barracks. Police surrounded the barracks and a standoff ensued.

Approximately two hours later, police entered a room at the barracks and found the suspect and two victims dead. One victim, reportedly a female Marine, was found in the barracks along with the suspect. The second victim, also a Marine, was found at the Officers Candidate School. The suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Cnn.com reported that the suspect was a staff member at the Officer Candidate School aboard MCB Quantico. Base officials were not able to confirm these reports at press time.

MCB Quantico is home to the Marine Corps Officer Candidates and Basic Schools, in addition to the Marine Corps University, the Marine Corps Brig, the FBI and Drug Enforcement (DEA) Administration training academies.

The Marine Corps Brig at Quantico was once home to notorious criminals such as John Hinckley, Clayton J. Lonetree and crack-cocaine kingpin, Rayful Edmunds.
