Antoinette Davis, the Cumberland County woman accused of selling her daughter into sexual slavery, is set to appear in court again on February 2 to face felony criminal charges in connection to the murder of her daughter, Shaniya Davis.

The Black Urban Times learned Friday that D.W. Bray, the Fayetteville attorney representing Antoinette Davis plans to ask the court for a continuation at that February 2 appearance.

"It will be continued," said law office employee Melissa. When asked for further comment, we were told, "that is all we can say about the case at this time."

Antoinette Davis has been charged with felony human trafficking, felony child abuse and prostitution, resisting a public official and filing a false police report.

Davis, who was pregnant at the time of her arrest, has been free on bond since her release from Central Women’s Prison in Raleigh, North Carolina on February 21, 2010. Attempts to locate and reach Davis or members of her family for comment were unsuccessful.

Mario McNeil, the man police say can be seen on hotel video footage carrying Shaniya Davis hours after she went missing from her mother's trailer home, has been charged with first degree kidnapping, first degree murder and first degree rape of a child, all felonies. Fayetteville police Sgt. John Somerindyke told The Black Urban Times McNeil is due back in Cumberland County District Court on March 1.

The North Carolina Department of Corrections web site said McNeil's current incarceration record was unavailable at the time, but Sgt Somerindyke confirmed that he was still being held at Central Prison in Raleigh.

Shaniya Davis was found dead November 16, 2009 in a deserted area off of Highway 7 along Walker Road in Lee County, six days after her mother reported the five-year-old missing. An autopsy determined the cause of death to be asphyxiation. The little girl, who was described by neighbors and relatives as a happy and loving child, had also been raped.

Touched by the circumstances and death of Shaniya, NBA star Shaquille O'Neal paid for her funeral. O'Neal, a father of five, said, "What happened to [Shaniya] was tragic. I wanted her to have a funeral that would be as beautiful as she was."
