A Memphis man is locked up in the Shelby County Jail after he shot his estranged wife three times and pistol whipped her with a BB gun Saturday.
Hal Lee Cromer, 32, kicked in the door of his wife's Powell Avenue home near Highland and Summer Avenues around noon Saturday and shot her three times with a .22-caliber rifle. The wife told police Cromer came to the house prior to the shooting and threatened to kill her if she did not let him inside, the Commercial Appeal reported.
A police affidavit states Cromer, who pleaded guilty in 2010 to a possession and attempted manufacture of methamphetamine charge, allegedly pointed a gun at his wife on August 24 after she notified him that she filed for divorce. Memphis police arrested Cromer but he was released from jail after posting a $30,000 bond. That case is still pending. The couple's children were home at the time of the shooting but were not injured.
Cromer is now charged with attempted second degree murder, aggravated burglary, three counts of reckless endangerment and possession of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous crime. He is being held in lieu of $750,000 bond.
Court records show Cromer received six years probation in the methamphetamine case and was ordered to a rehabilitation program.
